The Shelter Story
New Build
The appeal for the shelter build started in Novermber 2017 when we had to raise 12,300 euro to buy the land and pay the tax to register it for 65 dogs to move over from the shelter she was renting. We also had to pay rent on that shelter of 600 euro a month simultaneously.
Getting Started
Work started on building the first of three outdoor kennel bays in the spring of 2018
By March 2020 when the Coronavirus Pandemic hit, the shelter comprised of: three outdoor kennel bays, two wells for water, a nursing/sick bay and a quarantine bay, it had a playground area, plus a small two bedroom house surrounded by fencing on a site of approximately one and half acres, and secured by CCTV. We had also bought an internal transport van for moving dogs into the shelter from the streets and the public shelters,
Pandemic!
Owners started abandoning their pets and litters of puppies at the shelter we had to raise funds for the construction of a dedicated mother and baby unit homing up to four litters at a time.
We then built two more internal kennel bays. Plus shored up the land to cope with the impact of earthquakes in the region.
The shelter can now accommodate up to 120 dogs. But due to financial circumstances we can only help a maximum of 65 at any time.

What We Do
We employ four members of staff, one at the public shelter in Tuzla

We operate a SNR program in partnership with a number of vets to reduce nearly 2.5m unwanted births in the last four years.
Over the course of 6.5 years we have homed in the region of 1850-2000 dogs in partnership with a number of UK based rescue groups.
All our work is voluntary and dependent on fundraising.At its height we had 120 plus dogs at the shelter requiring up to 18,000 euro a month.
It cost approximately €250,000 to build and equip the shelter.
